apparently, it's being reported that veronica mars is going to be canceled. fuck. a hearty FUCK YOU to the CW network. hopefully it's not true... and considering that other shows like gilmore girls might are unlikely to be picked up next season, what does the network have going for it? another season of 7th heaven? ugh. more reality shows like american's next top model and beauty and the geek? bleh. so sickening that it's starting to get me depressed.

laker 1, clippers 0. i'm a little upset that veronica mars was pre-empted to show the lakers-clippers first game, seeing as it's only two episodes left before the hearst rapist mystery comes to a close. luckily, i was able to download the ep. but while we're on the subject, a fun article from the los angeles times.

Bill Plaschke:
This L.A. rivalry is now fun
November 22 2006

Sixty feet.

In the bowels of this city's heavenly playground, the distance between the Lakers and Clippers locker rooms approximates the distance between a pitchers' mound and the plate.

Which, on a rowdy Tuesday night, may have accounted for all those fastballs the two teams threw at each other.

Could you hear it?

Whoosh . Kobe Bryant dipping and darting and spinning like the guy we once knew, scoring 40 points with one turnover, walking off with his first huge grin of the season.

Whoosh . Elton Brand pouncing and pounding like the guy we also once knew, 20 points, 15 rebounds, a scowl that stretched to Santa Monica.

The Lakers and Clippers have played 169 times in 22 years in L.A. before Tuesday night, but rarely has it felt like this, bodies thudding, players howling, passion rising.

And, in the end, the Lakers standing on their upstart roomies' chests and orating.

A three-word statement.

Not so fast.

Trailing by a point in the final three minutes, the unsettled Clippers stumbled for three consecutive possessions, and the Bryant-hardened Lakers rolled them.

Kwame Brown blocked Corey Maggette's runner. Brand pushed Smush Parker for an offensive foul. Luke Walton blocked Maggette's jumper. End of story.

Final score: Lakers 105, Clippers 101.

Final observation: This hallway thingy is now officially fun.

"Yeah, it was fun," said Bryant long after the crowd had finally quieted. "When the whole city kind of gets involved in the atmosphere, it can't help but be fun."

It was the hallway rivals' first meeting at Staples Center since the Clippers cleaned up their side of the building.

It was their first meeting since the Clippers finished ahead of the Lakers in the standings and advanced farther in the playoffs.

It was one of the first times this game actually felt like, well, a game.

"One of those games where both teams were really going at it, like every possession counted," said Shaun Livingston, who also showed up for the first time this season with seven of the Clippers' first nine points in the fourth quarter. "It was one of those games that elite teams have to win."

The Clippers are one of those elite teams. But, when stared down by their more established neighbors, they forgot that fact.

The Lakers also, surprisingly, played like one of those elite teams. And with Bryant on their team, they never forget.

While the Clippers were collapsing at the end, Bryant was hitting a twisting layup and a soft jumper and two free throws and nobody was even looking at his right knee.

"You have to learn how to do that," Bryant said of closing games. "That's why I was so proud of us tonight. They made their run, we came to the bench and said, 'OK, now let's make our run,' and we did."

The Clippers, meanwhile, were just shaking their heads.

"It was really a weird game for us," Chris Kaman said. "I can't put my finger on it, but it was just a strange game, we weren't ourselves."

Perhaps the pressure of being the team with higher expectations got the best of them? Maybe it was more fun when they were underdogs?

This was a Lakers home game but, for the first time ever, there were substantial cheers for the Clippers.

"Things were definitely more intense," Walton said. "It was only one out of 82, but it felt like more."

And when was the last time you heard Lakers fans openly and vociferously boo a Clipper? Yet, they jumped on the back of Tim Thomas, who sunk the Lakers last spring while playing for the Phoenix Suns, yet hit only one of four three-point baskets.

It's not that the Lakers are, or will ever be, in danger of losing the town to the Clippers. Not with nine Los Angeles championships and decades of excellence hanging from their waists. Not a chance.

"Let's not get carried away here," Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said before the game. "The Clippers haven't done anything yet. They've gotten through one round of the playoffs. This is a dyed-in-the-wool Lakers town."

The most substantial difference between the two teams here can be found in the locker rooms.

The Lakers locker room has 4,900 square feet.

The Clippers locker room has 3,600 square feet.

This is because Phil Anschutz, who owns the Kings, also owns about 30% of the Lakers, and they were partners from the beginning of construction.

The Clippers were not added as tenants until later in the building process, so a special locker room had to be carved out for them.

They have since carved a much bigger spot, but, as Tuesday proved, they own nothing yet.

"The Lakers were here from the start and when the Clippers came, people thought they would never do it, but they've done it," said Tim Leiweke, the Staples Center president, with a grin. "Right now, everybody is happy."

Count me in.

anyone know marco tempest? if you haven't, you're missing out on some fun stuff. you can search for him on youtube or itunes podcasts. he does what he calls "smart magic" through his camera phone. they're basically short tricks/illusions/whatnot that he does without any post-production or editing. so i guess it's like sleight of hand? the majority of the tricks can be figured out with a little of thinking time, but i'm still not quite sure how he does "the kiss"... anyone got any ideas? let me know...

Mood: tired.
stole from jenny... fun quote that i've posted pretty much so i have a place to "keep" it and not really for anyone to see considering that no one ever reads my blog since i only post about once every four months... but nonetheless, a good quote. somewhat depressing because it actually seems to describe the way i've looked at life. but i guess it's best that i realize this now instead of twenty years from now...

"for a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. but there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. then life would begin. at last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." - alfred d. souza

so i was cleaning out my folder on the computer when i stumbled upon my high school senior will... quite interesting to read and to see that i left "stuff" for people who i don't even talk to anymore (and some of whom i haven't talked to probably SINCE i even wrote the will)... can't believe it's already been so long... crazy, huh?! time really flies.

I, Ryan, hereby leave four years of "good times, good times". David: malibu shores, 7th grade letters... Candice: new sweater, break-up scripts, ice machine... Jennifer: guestbook entries, APM, "crush", "torn"... Katrina: a clue, kayas shorts, dennys turn... Tanvi: ability to choose battles carefully, mooching... William: top 100 movies, MC concert... Carol: crappy concert tickets, bitterness... Kausar: naz, comebacks, christina CD... Ashmi: winter formal, my feigned affection... Lyza: katie holmes assets... Kristine: superbowl party bystanders... Dani: sadies, people-watching... Carla: free trips to China... Charlotte: burned CDs, rides home... Karen: internet access... Philong: spanish homerun... To my parents and sister: my love and thanks... and to anyone I may have forgotten (only in writing!), there will always be a place for you in my memories.

as if that's actually news, since she's been that way for a while now... but i've decided to include this handy then-and-now comparison so that you could actually see for yourself... and as i've said for years and years, britney has big thighs... i think that there's no possible counterargument after seeing this image...

in order to counteract this blinding sore-for-sight-eyes that is now-britney, i've only posted a small thumbnail on this page... feel free to click on it to see it in high-res horror. =D perhaps this wouldn't have happened had she not married white trash? i guess we'll never know...

now-britney... worse than kirstie alley...

r.i.p. skinny airbrushed britney...
then-britney... albeit heavily airbrushed...

=O! kobe's accuser is pregnant! not with his baby... just in case you were wondering...

but yea, she's knocked up. no wonder she probably decided to drop the case against him way back when... see two posts ago... (sad that that post from way back in september is only two posts back... i really should update...) the first thing i thought when i saw that was wonder, if a woman has been raped, wouldn't she be all like hesitant to be intimate with guys again for fear of it happening again? or wouldn't she be all paranoid? apparently no, since she's still sleeping around... not really "proof" that he didn't do it, but to me it makes her accusation all the more suspicious... but anyhoo, i wonder how much money she'll get when they settle the civil suit...

and rudy t. resigned from the lakers! not really a related note, but eh... i'm just kinda writing stream of consciousness since i haven't updated this blog in literally three months, but i was bored... i wonder why he did it... he claimed it was for health reasons, but some were speculating that it was really because he was upset with how to team was playing... if that's the case, that's pretty lame because, hello, he's THE COACH! it's partially his fault that they're not getting good direction... but newayz... maybe they'll bring back phil jackson like they said... doubt he'll return, but that would be cool... all right, end of random blog. =D

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson

Subject:free kobe!!!...
Time:10:06 pm.
Mood: happy.
case against kobe bryant dropped

woohoo! =D so apparently the alleged victim decided not to go forward with her testimony for the criminal trial because of all the mistakes and leaks that have occurred during the duration of the case... uh-huh... a lame reason, if you ask me. i mean, i can't necessarily put myself in her position, but if she was truly interested in justice against someone who raped her, i think having her name released is small price to pay. but of course, now all she has to look forward is the civil suit where she can try and get buttloads of money from kobe... coincidence? just as i suspected from the day i heard kobe bryant was charged with sexual assault 14 months ago... she's in it for the money. liar! slut (this comment is justified since examiner testimony said she slept with at least one other man within the 24 hours between the alleged incident and her examination)! money grubber! and so on... and so on...

but wow. i can't believe it's been 14 months... i still remember last summer when i was watching television and i heard the news that kobe bryant was arrested and i was like "whaaaaat?" and in all that time, i never got my "free kobe" shirt or one that said "the only court kobe belongs on is a basketball court" or something like that... that one was funny... ah well. now kobe can concentrate on making sure the lakers get to the playoffs this year... he better! season begins november 2nd! yay! =D so depressing though... without satellite now, i won't be able to watch any of the home games and/or the pre-season exhibition games... sigh. i'll manage. maybe i'll try and actually get tickets to go to the games! woohoo! that'd be cool. we'll see... go lakers!!!

go lakers!!!

Subject:an end, a beginning...
Time:9:49 pm.
Mood: happy.
so it's 9:15pm on a sunday... watching the end of the olympics after finishing my first short film... whew. what a crazy week it's been. the beginning of senior year at usc has been awesome and fun while at the same time nerve-racking and slow. it's the first time i've had a four-day schedule in a long time, and while i don't actually have classes that are that long, it seems like the week would never end. i switched out of my race and ethnicity class and opted to take a sports, culture and communication class instead. wow. the entire class is comprised of jocks. no kidding. of course, it's what i somewhat expected, but to even more of an extreme. there are least five guys from the football team, who the teacher knows and seemingly loves, of course. so while i actually took the class because i thought it would be interesting, having to share the classroom with jocks who aren't taking the class all too serious is somewhat annoying. how elitist of me. =/

my empirical research in communication teacher is a total fob. literally. he has an accent and says "all right... ok..." after pretty much every sentence. the first day it got kind of annoying, but he's actually a cool guy, so now it's just kind of funny. he's really laid back and cool, and he always makes fun of himself (in a good way, not a bad way) which makes the class fun. i'm not quite sure what area of research i plan to do my semester-long study on, but we'll see... we have to choose by this week... yikes!

but that's not as bad as my film classes. fun film classes, no doubt. but our first film is already due on tuesday. whoa. which brings me to my aforementioned short film. it blows. =P weeeeell... it's probably not the worst thing ever filmed, and considering it's the first time i've actually ever put together a short film with a purpose (unlike our "music videos" from way back when =P those were fun tho...) it was so weird. we also had to edit-in-camera for the first since it was due literally one week after our first class. which means i had to film a shot, stop the camera, set up the next shot, film it, stop the camera, set up the next, film it, stop, etc. etc. etc. man, that was annoying. and it also resulted in somewhat crappy cuts. i can't wait to just film and then edit on the avid. then i can really learn to hone my craft... ;) hahaha =D don't worry! i won't become a film snob. there's enough of those in my class already... blah. talking about all these foreign directors and/or french new wave directors who they just loooooooooove and shunning the mainstream. i think i'm the only one who listed a studio movie as one of my "favorites." one other girl said she liked "the goonies" but of course she had to refer to it as a "guilty pleasure" as though there's something wrong with liking the film. sheesh... it's not like she said "new york minute" or something... then i could understand the shame. =D

but my first filming experience was good for the most part. uber-realization of the shoot: the ideas i have are too complex for a simple guy like me to try and film. the treatment i wrote for it was all cool, and i had all these ideas, but when it came down to shooting time, i ended up having to drop about 3/4 of what i wanted to do. sad. but with limited experience and limited time (one day to shoot... we have to pass the camera around between a group of three, which means for this project we each got one day with the camera...) it was the best i could do. so if you ever want to see my humble starter film "passing moments" lemme know. will i let you see it? that depends... ;)

finally, there's my children and media class. so far, so fun. surprised that it doesn't seem as theory-heavy as i thought it would be. we aren't really learning about freud or psychology or all that crap. granted, it is a comm class, but i figured it would have some annoying kid stuff. instead, we're currently discussing the image of the child in media and even watching an episode of "the simpsons" (the one where maggie attacks homer after watching it on itchy and scratchy)! yay!

so that's that. school is cool- something i thought i'd never say. i don't even feel like a senior and i know that talk of graduation and grad school and the "future" and whatnot is gonna start following me around very soon... thrilling, exciting, but also scary. i'm still just taking things one day at a time... and this semester looks like it will probably be the most stressful. but i'll face it headfirst. fight on! =)

and on that note... usc football won our season-opener! woohoo! they trailed at halftime though, weren't as dominant as everything thinks they should be. but hey, a win is a win. and so the olympics closing ceremony continues... it was a fun two weeks. glad to see michael phelps get his six gold medals. sucks that he didn't get a seventh. i continue to hate paul hamm (i hate how he pronounces it "hom" instead of "ham"... ugh... it's just like ralph fiennes saying his name is pronounced "rafe" and not "ralph" whaaateeever...) but it was good to see thailand and chile kick some butt. not a whole lot of butt compared to the greedy, dominant americans (not that i'm saying being good is a fault... but how can you compete with the usa?) but thailand ended with 8 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze) in boxing and weightlifting competitions and chile ended with 3 medals (2 gold, 1 bronze) in tennis competitions. woohoo! a tear... i'm so proud. =) ;)

75 countries got at least one medal... how many countries actually went to the games? it's interesting to look at the medal count... and always fun to see when some little country gets any medal in any competition and you see them all overjoyed and happy. i'm a pessismistic person and not very emotional but watching the olympics really does teach you a thing about unity, and seeing everyone striving to achieve the same goal you can't help but get that good feeling in your heart/mind/gut/whatever. awwwww... if only greedy people like paul hamm weren't such babies... but i digress...

so that's my life for now. back to school, work, school, work instead of my summer schedule of boredom, work, boredom, work. =D

until my next update...

julia child died. tear... chefs are cool. plus, she had an accent that people always used when they did parodies of her. r.i.p.

alien v. predator made $17 million on friday alone. whoa. i wanna see it, but realize it will probably be shit on celluloid considering it's pg-13. hello! how can it be pg-13?! what madness is this?!

finally saw napoleon dynamite. pretty hilarious movie. "what are you going to do today, napoleon?" "whatever i feel like!"

usc is associated press' no. 1 pre-season pick for football. woohoo!

joss whedon might write x-men 3! =O! that could lead to the most bad-ass superhero movie yet... now if only they can make sure bryan singer gets back in the director's chair...

haven't gotten to watch the last episode of last comic standing yet... wonder who won... hopefully john heffron... am i the only one who watched that show this season?

sigh. only 9 more days... ugh. but then that also means joss stone concert is only 10 more days... yay!

woohoo! now i can pretend i went to bayside with zack, kelly, slater, jessie, lisa and (sadly) screech! =D although i'm torn... which is cooler: the "go bayside/beat valley" tee or the "zack attack friends forever tour" replica? hmmm... decisions, decisions. ;)

what are you waiting for?! go buy one now! =D

hmmm... i wonder how many they've actually sold... if only they had a tee for the group "hot fudge sundae" i might be persuaded to buy... ;) =P

Subject:11 days to go...
Time:2:51 pm.
Mood: bored.
i finally got my schedule together. woohoo! unfortunately, it's a four-day schedule. ugh. ;)

10:00a - 12:00p - comm458: race and ethnicity in entertainment and the arts
12:00p - 2:00p - comm300: empirical research in communication

11:00a - 12:30p - comm457: children and media
1:00p - 5:00p - ctpr241: fundamentals of cinema technique

10:00a - 12:00p - comm458: race and ethnicity in entertainment and the arts
12:00p - 2:00p - comm300: empirical research in communication
2:00p - 3:00p - comm300: empirical research in communication discussion section

11:00a - 12:30p - comm457: children and media
1:00p - 5:00p - ctpr290: cinematic communication

so yea, it took fooooorever to find a schedule that worked because those damn cinema and communication classes always overlap. ugh. so i had to take lame ass "children and media" which will probably suck since i hate kids and am gonna have to sit and hear about them for a whole semester. although maybe it will be cool cuz we'll learn how to manipulate them and stuff... hmmm... well, i guess i'll find out in 11 days...
